Hybrids are a great fun newer addition in Happy Aquarium. Normally a fish looks a certain way, and you will know it's babies will look the same, or be the same fish type in another color. Well, along came the Hybrids! These fun fabulous fish have certain characteristics, such as a long nose or a flowing tail. When you mate two Hybrid fish together, they create a unique offspring that is a real mix of the two parents!

First make sure you have a compatible pair, one male and one female. Note that you can see in the info box if a fish is a hybrid, using the unique hybrid icon marked here.

 

 

 

To mate two hybrids, select one of them and click on Mate

In the next screen you are shown the compatible mates (any Hybrid that is the opposite gender is compatible):

To mate them, either select the option for coins (note that mating for coins is a gamble and is not guaranteed to be successful) - or the option for Pearls (mating for Pearls is guaranteed successful so it will always result in an egg):

If the mating is successful, an egg is produced! :-) Congratulations!

You will see a menu where you are notified that the egg is placed in your Nursery. From here you can go to the Nursery to view it, or you can stay in the tank to mate other fish (or if you don't want to see the egg):

Note the Hybrid egg will always be placed in the Nursery, it cannot stay in a normal tank.

Once you visit the Nursery, you can see your egg on the Tree of Life, where it will grow until it's ready to hatch.

 

To ensure your egg can keep growing, you just need to keep the tank clean :) An egg will not grow in a dirty tank, so check back often to clean the Nursery. Eggs do not need any food.

 

Once enough time has passed, as indicated in the info popup when you click on the egg, it will be ready to hatch. Click on the HATCH button to release the baby fish from the egg

 

You then get the option of picking which tank you'd like to put your new Hybrid in!

 

The two options at the bottom give you the option of moving the egg and staying in the nursery (so you can hatch more eggs) or to move and go to the tank, so you can view your baby hybrid.

In the tank you selected, you'll see your new Hybrid baby fish! Check out what it looks like, it is a surprise! Remember that it will take elements from both it's mother and father, so your hybrid will be a unique special fish!

Your result will be random, so until the egg hatches you won't know what kind of amazing fish you have created! :)

How do I get started with Hybrids?

When you first get access to your Hybrids, it is through the tutorial. This guides you through how the Nursery works and how you can mate Hybrids and hatch the eggs. You receive two free hybrids then and a free baby from mating them :)

 

At what level can I start the Hybrid Tutorial?

This is available once you reach level 10

 

Can I place fish in my Nursery?

No, the Nursery can only hold Hybrid eggs, props and tank mates. No fish or critters can be placed there, it's only for your eggs :)

How many eggs can I have at once?
This will depend on your Tree of Life. The Tree of Life has a maximum of 6 leaves, and these are unlocked when you mate more hybrids successfully.

If you do not have any spare leaves but want to mate a Hybrid, you can also purchase a "Single Use Leaf" from the store to hold the egg

What is a Single Use Leaf? 

The Single Use Leaf is like the Tree of Life, but it can hold one egg only. Once the egg hatches, this leaf is used up and will then disappear from your Nursery. It will keep the egg safe until it's ready to hatch

 

Can I put other eggs in the Nursery?

No, the Nursery is only for your special Hybrid eggs, normal eggs are kept in your tanks

 

How do I know what the baby will look like?

You won't until it's hatched! :) This is the fun creative element of hybrids. You can pick two parents to mate and the baby can use random elements from either of them to create a whole new fish!

 

Can I mate mixed Hybrids with others?

Absolutely! All hybrids are compatible with each other, as long as they are of the opposite gender (1 male, 1 female). If you mated your hybrids a few times and got some cool combinations, these can be mated together as well to make even cooler offspring! There is no limit to what you can do :)

 

Can I hatch my Hybrid egg or grow my Hybrid baby early?

Yes, if you click on an egg and click Hatch before the timer is up, you can use Pearls to purchase a pill to hatch the egg instantly. Likewise, if you click on a baby fish and click on "Grow", you can purchase a vitamin using Pearls to instantly grow it.

 

My Hybrid baby doesn't look like either of its parents

When a baby hybrid has just hatched, it is very small and has not grown into it's features yet. Wait until it's a little older and you'll see it start to take shape :) For instance if it has a long flowing tail, this may not show on a small baby fish until it's a bit older. The hybrid will change in appearance as it gets larger and larger.

 

I have a free leaf on my Tree of Life but it tells me my tree is full when I try to mate them!

This is very rare but occasionally an egg can develop a little problem. Get in touch with our Support team and they will gladly clear that up for you so you can get your Hybrid baby :) Click on "Submit Bug Report" at the top of this page to get in touch with us.

 

I can't take my Hybrid on a Treasure Hunt, is this normal?

Yes, at the moment Hybrids are not able to complete treasure hunts, please select a standard (non-Hybrid) fish to do the hunt with.

 

Where can I buy more Hybrids?

Hybrids are placed in a special section of the store, just click on the "Specials" tab in the store, and then on "Hybrids" to see all the currently available hybrids.
